What Does the Bible Say About Debt?
Biblical teaching treats obligations seriously and often presents debt as something that can limit freedom. That does not mean every indebted person is morally deficient or that every form of borrowing is identical.
Avoid shame-based simplification
Debt can arise from emergencies, education, housing, medical costs, business decisions, consumption, or other circumstances. Good guidance begins with the facts.
Focus on responsibility
Know what you owe, understand rates and terms, prioritize required payments, and seek qualified help when the situation is unmanageable.
Faith can support perseverance
Prayer and community support may help emotionally, but they do not replace a workable repayment or counseling plan.
